چکیده

Introduction: Despite the presence of ultra high field systems (7T) dating from late 1990s, there have been few reports of their use in spectroscopic imaging (SI) studies. This limitation is due to the inherent disadvantages of high field which result in a 5-12 fold increase in power deposition at 7T in comparison to 3T. These problems become especially severe when in–plane volume localization is used for SI. To overcome these limitations we have developed a short TE (15ms) SI sequence utilizing an 8 element 7T transceiver array and a B1 shimming based method for in-plane localization. This method reduces the required peak power by 456% and does not require gradient selection, thereby eliminating spatial mis-registration errors. We have utilized this method to acquire high resolution (0.36cc) spectroscopic images of the human brain at 7T of glutamate, glutamine and macromolecules in controls with an average power deposition of 1W/kg.

The Benefits of Higher Order B0 Shimming of the Human Brain at 7T

Introduction: With the advent of ultrahigh field systems (7T), significant improvements in spectroscopic imaging (SI) studies of the human brain have been anticipated. However, these gains are dependent upon the achievable B0 homogeneity, both globally (over the entire ROI or slice) and locally (the linewidths of individual SI voxels within the ROI). The goals of this work were to: 1) determine...

7T Human Spine Arrays with Adjustable Inductive Decoupling

Introduction Ultrahigh field parallel imaging at 7T has been proven to be a promising imaging modality for humans because it can provide high spatial and temporal resolution simultaneously [1-4]. However, one of technical challenges in implementing ultrahigh field parallel imaging is to design the required transceiver arrays, especially the large size arrays, for signal excitation and reception...

Tilted Transceiver Array for Ultra-high Field MRI

Introduction: Ultra-high field transceiver coil array holds many advantages and unique capabilities over the conventional non-array volume transceiver coils such as B1 shimming/manipulating and parallel excitation for human studies. The transceiver array can be either an array of loops or an array of straight microstrip elements [1-3]. Usually the mutual coupling in such arrays is minimized by ...

Composite Localization with adiabatic slice selective excitation and refocusing (cLASER) for improved 1H MRSI in non uniform B1 fields

INTRODUCTION: H magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) can be used as a diagnostic tool to distinguish abnormal from normal tissue by obtaining metabolic information which can be used as biomarkers. MRSI can be improved by going to higher field strengths like 7 Tesla which offer increased spectral resolution and SNR. However, at these field strengths the non uniformity of the B1 field ...

Four Channel Transceiver Array for Functional Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in the Human Visual Cortex at 9.4 T

Introduction: Functional magnetic resonance spectroscopy (fMRS) at ultra-high field (UHF) strength (≥7T) is a method to investigate the metabolism of the human brain during task induced stimulation [1] or pharmalogical challenge [2]. A region of special interest is the visual cortex which undergoes metabolic changes during visual stimulation [1]. The UHF thereby allows for increased spectral an...
